Why now

Twenty years of wear, and no bond to fix it.

Our local elementary and middle schools at Reed Union School District provide an excellent, award-winning education to students in Tiburon, Belvedere, and eastern Corte Madera. Great teachers and well-rounded academics make them one of the top school districts in the state, and a major reason families choose to live here. Great schools protect our property values and quality of life.

RUSD has not asked voters for bond funding in over 20 years. In that time, our schools have aged. Leaky roofs, decaying walls, deteriorating plumbing and restrooms, mold, and outdated electrical and security systems now need repair, and waiting longer will only make these repairs more costly. Several portable classrooms have reached the end of their useful life and must be replaced with permanent, earthquake-safe classrooms.

Voting YES on Measure O will:

  • Help attract and retain high-quality teachers with safe, modern classrooms
  • Repair leaky roofs, deteriorating classrooms and bathrooms
  • Remove mold and asbestos
  • Update fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency communications systems, and earthquake safety
  • Maintain accessibility for students with disabilities
  • Keep schools safe and clean
  • Update outdated security and electrical systems
  • Replace deteriorating portables with permanent classrooms

Accountability

Measure O requires strict fiscal accountability.

  • All funds controlled locally and spent on voter-approved projects only
  • No funds can be taken away by State or Federal governments
  • No funds spent on administrator salaries or pensions
  • Independent citizens' oversight and annual audits

What it costs

Reed would still have the lowest bond tax rate in the area.

Measure O would add about $30 per $100,000 of assessed value, bringing Reed’s combined facility bond rate to roughly $40. That is below every comparable Marin district, which run from about $45 to $90.
